Jibrin Ibrahim, a professor of Political Science and member of the governing board of the Center for Democracy and Development (CDD), has expressed that Nigerians are angry because they feel deceived by President Bola Tinubu’s government,Daily Trust reports.

In an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Ibrahim, who previously served as the Director of CDD, highlighted that governance in Nigeria is faltering due to the government’s failure to fulfill its promises.

He pointed out that the country’s high inflation rates have led to widespread hunger, with many Nigerians struggling daily to survive.

“When they removed the fuel subsidy, they promised that CNG buses would be available within weeks, and transportation costs would decrease. This promise was made 13 months ago, yet Nigerians have not seen these buses. In literature, this is akin to ‘waiting for Godot’—you’re told something will happen, but after weeks, months, and even a year, nothing materializes. It becomes clear that these promises are just narratives with no basis in reality,” Ibrahim said.

He emphasized that this pattern of unmet promises has left Nigerians frustrated and angry, feeling that they are being systematically deceived by a government that relies on storytelling rather than taking real action. “Nigerians are saying, ‘No, you can’t keep telling us stories,’” he added.

Ibrahim also noted the dire consequences of the current economic situation, with patients dying daily because they can’t afford medicine. He argued that while Nigerians are starving due to the economic crisis, the government seems to expect them to suffer in silence.
