Ex-Minister Mamman Accuses Lawyer of Misrepresenting Him in EFCC Statement
Saleh Mamman, former Minister of Power, has claimed that his lawyer misrepresented him in statements submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),TheCable reports.
Mamman is currently facing a 12-count charge of alleged money laundering connected to the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects. The EFCC is prosecuting him for allegedly conspiring to launder N33.8 billion.
Testifying on Wednesday as the first defence witness in a trial-within-trial, Mamman said he visited the EFCC office on February 20, 2025, accompanied by his lawyer, Mohammed Ahmed, during an interview with commission prosecutors. However, he alleged that Ahmed inserted false content into the statement, claiming he was uncertain whether all the details accurately reflected his own words.
When asked to point out the specific parts of the statement that were fabricated, Mamman said he could not recall them. He also confirmed that EFCC officials neither maltreated him nor threatened him with imprisonment at the time of his visit.
Justice James Omotosho adjourned the case to July 15 for the adoption of written addresses.
