Several children are feared dead following a stampede at a private children’s fun fair held at Basorun Islamic High School in Ibadan, Oyo State,Daily Trust reports.
According to Daily Trust, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
Oyo State’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, confirmed the tragedy and assured the public that the state government had promptly deployed a rapid response team to assist the victims.
He further disclosed that injured children were rushed to various hospitals in Ibadan, including Patnas Hospital, Western Hospital, Ring Road State Hospital, Molly Specialist Hospital, and the University College Hospital (UCH). Oyelade expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, for mobilizing response teams and pledged that the state government would provide support to the victims and their families during this difficult time.

The government clarified that it was not involved in organizing the event and stressed the need for proper planning and coordination when hosting large gatherings, especially those involving children and elderly individuals.
A comprehensive report from the Commissioner of Police is awaited to determine the total number of victims in this tragic incident.
