Nasiru Buba Rejects Sharia Court Verdict Clearing Jigawa Commissioner of Adultery Allegations
Nasiru Buba, who accused Jigawa’s Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara, of having an illicit affair with his wife, has rejected the Sharia Court’s ruling that absolved the politician of any wrongdoing,Daily Trust reports.
The Kano Upper Sharia Court dismissed the case, citing insufficient evidence. Presiding Judge Ibrahim Sarki Yola struck out the case after noting that police investigations found no proof of the alleged affair.
“Following the investigation by the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, the report shows there is no evidence to prove any illicit affair between Auwal Danladi Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu,” the judge stated. “Since the complainant and his lawyers are not present to challenge the submission by the police, I have no choice but to strike out the case,” he concluded.
In reaction, during an interactive session with journalists in Kano, Buba expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling, claiming he presented substantial evidence to support his claims.
“I provided hundreds of verifiable pieces of evidence, including 854 pictures, over 100 video clips, over 200 WhatsApp voice notes, and more than 500 hours of call records,” Buba said. “Most of this evidence was obtained through my wife, Tasleem. If the court cleared them, they are not cleared in the eyes of God and those who know the truth. I leave everything to Allah, who will be the ultimate judge, Insha Allah.”
Buba’s lawyer, Rabi’u Sidi, criticized the lack of communication about the court sitting, which they were not informed about.
“We are a very important and necessary party to this case, yet no one informed us of the sitting. We only learned about the ruling through the news,” Sidi said. The legal team, he added, would meet to decide on their next course of action.
The case has its roots in an incident on August 17, 2024, when the Kano State Hisbah Board reportedly arrested the commissioner with a married woman at an uncompleted building. Sankara, however, denied the allegations.
