Officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended a man named Kayode Cole for making death threats against the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede,Daily Trust reports.
According to Dele Oyewale, the commission’s spokesperson, Cole was captured in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He disclosed that the suspect issued the threat through his Instagram account, “1billionsecretss,” while responding to a post by the popular Instagram blogger, Instablog9ja, on February 1, 2024.
Instablog9ja had shared a story with the caption: “A Religious Sect Is Laundering Money for Terrorists. We Traced N7 Billion Fraud Proceeds to another Religious Group- EFCC Chairman.”

In a comment on Instablog9ja’s post, Cole stated that the EFCC Chairman would be deceased within six months, saying, “He will be dead in six months. This man will be dead in 6months remember, I said it.”
During interrogation, Cole claimed that his comment was merely for attention-seeking purposes.
Oyewale stated that Cole would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
It’s worth noting that Olukoyede, the EFCC Chairman, had previously revealed at a one-day dialogue on “Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption” on January 30, 2024, at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, that the EFCC had uncovered instances of money laundering by a religious sect in Nigeria for terrorists. He also mentioned another religious organization’s involvement in shielding a money launderer after tracing suspicious funds to the group’s bank account.
