Asabe who was more of a conspiracy theorist like myself cut in quietly, “Hm, honestly I think they are taking us for a ride, I really do not believe that virus exists.” Farida responded,
“Tor, me I already took the jab, twice o. So please lets not talk about it.” We all laughed because we remembered how Farida had told us her first vaccine experience, and how she had stayed awake all through the night because of the pain in her arm. It was not a laughing matter, far from it, but the way Farida had told us the story, in her usual dramatic and a bit exaggerated way, made us laugh, even when we sympathised with her.
We changed the topic when our orders arrived. Everyone was eating and chatting about how the year was coming to an end soon. We were also making plans to visit our Christian friends who lived in town. Which brings us back to the subject of the economic recession.
