Hajiya Fatima Aliyu Aminu Garu, wife of Hon. Aliyu Aminu Garu, the Member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency, has come under criticism for reportedly distributing sugarcane sticks to youths as part of an empowerment initiative,Daily Trust reports.

Images of the event have sparked ridicule and backlash against the lawmaker’s wife.

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has expressed its disappointment, with the party’s State Secretary, Abdulazeez Haruna, issuing a statement condemning the gesture.

“This action falls far below the standard of representation expected for the people of Bauchi Federal Constituency,” Haruna said. “As a party, we believe that true representation should go beyond token handouts and selective empowerment schemes. The people of Bauchi deserve substantial developmental initiatives that address their real needs.”

The PRP also called on Hon. Aliyu Garu to be accountable for his tenure in the National Assembly. They demanded transparency regarding the tangible developmental projects or bills he has introduced to benefit the Bauchi Local Government Area since his election.

“We urge Hon. Garu to prove his dedication to serving the people by focusing on meaningful actions that go beyond tokenism. The people of Bauchi Local Government Area deserve real progress, not superficial gestures. We also encourage the constituents to hold their representative accountable,” Haruna added.

Efforts to get a response from Hon. Aliyu Garu were unsuccessful, as one of his aides informed Daily Trust that the lawmaker was out of the country on official business.
