Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on the people of Sokoto State to support efforts to secure Nigeria against the foreign armed group known locally as “Lakurawa,Daily Trust reports.

During his operational visit to the state, General Oluyede stated that his purpose was to evaluate the readiness of the troops stationed there. “I am here to see my troops, assess their operational readiness, and encourage them to continue their work to secure this country,” he said.

In Tangaza Local Government Area, a hotspot for Lakurawa activity, General Oluyede met with community leaders, including the council chairman, Alhaji Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, seeking their collaboration. “We need your support. Without it, our mission will be difficult, and without success, Nigeria cannot be fully secured,” he emphasized. “Challenges will always arise, but what matters is how we confront them. The Nigerian Army is committed to ensuring the safety of our country.”

After arriving around 9:30 a.m., General Oluyede visited Masallaci, a community in Tangaza located 25 kilometers from the Niger Republic border. He was briefed there by theater commanders, including the General Officer Commanding the 8 Division and the Garrison Commander.

The Army Chief also visited the Illela border community, where he received additional briefings and reiterated his request for local support in securing the area.
