The Kebbi State Government has established a 13-member committee to investigate the incident of looting of palliatives in certain areas of Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, that occurred on Saturday,Daily Trust reports.

During the incident, some residents raided a government warehouse in the Bayan Kara area of Birnin Kebbi on Saturday night and absconded with food supplies. Despite the presence of security personnel stationed at the warehouse, the perpetrators forcefully entered both government and private warehouses and shops, stealing various food items. Additionally, they targeted a truck carrying assorted grains intended for distribution in Birnin Kebbi.

Speaking to the press after a meeting of the state executive council, Shehu Mu’azu, the Commissioner for Agriculture and head of the committee, stated that the panel has been charged with submitting its findings to the state government by Friday. Mu’azu clarified that only specific warehouses, including one belonging to Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area and those storing palliatives provided by the Dangote Group, were targeted, emphasizing that government warehouses had already been emptied through prior distribution efforts.

Mu’azu attributed the looting of the Dangote palliatives to mismanagement during the distribution process, highlighting a failure to engage security personnel. Meanwhile, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner for Information, outlined the committee’s objectives, which encompass identifying the root causes of the looting, identifying those responsible, and proposing measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
