The Kano State Censorship Board has officially banned all Kauyawa Day celebrations, commonly referred to as Villagers Day Events, and has suspended the operations of all event centers across the state until further notice,Daily Trust reports.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the Executive Secretary of the Board, Abba El-Mustapha, during a press briefing following a meeting of the board’s management.
El-Mustapha explained that the decision is part of a wider initiative to uphold public morality and maintain order. He stated that the action is backed by the recently amended law governing the board—passed by the Kano State House of Assembly and signed into law by Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf in 2025.
The revised legislation grants the Censorship Board authority to oversee and regulate the activities of DJs, event organizers, and event centers throughout the state.

As a result, any event organized under the banner of Kauyawa Day is now considered a violation of state regulations.
El-Mustapha called on community leaders, security agencies, and local enforcement groups—including Hisbah, the Kano State Vigilante Group, and other neighborhood watch bodies—to work with the board to ensure strict enforcement of the directive.
“Effective immediately, organizing any Villagers Day Event (Kauyawa) is a punishable offense under the law,” he stated. “We urge all stakeholders to support this enforcement effort for the collective good of our society.”
