Unidentified assailants have taken the lives of at least nine individuals belonging to a local vigilante group widely recognized as ‘Yan Ba Beli’ within Bauchi State,leadership reports.

Reports indicate that this vigilante organization had gained prominence for collaboratively launching offensives with state security forces against kidnappers and armed robbers throughout the state.

The tragic event unfolded within the Gamji village forest as the vigilantes combed the area in pursuit of the bandits who had been causing distress in the communities of Ningi local government area.

The attackers ambushed the vigilantes, resulting in the fatal outcome of nine members, while some others managed to escape with injuries.

A confidential source within the vicinity revealed to our correspondent that this incident occurred during the late hours of Sunday as the ‘Yan Ba Beli’ were ascending the mountain near Gamji village in their quest to locate the bandits hiding within the forest. Upon encountering the ambush, the bandits swiftly opened fire on the vigilantes.

Hon. Ibrahim Zubairu Mato, the Caretaker Chairman of Ningi LGA, confirmed the assault and vehemently condemned it. He assured the community that the government remains dedicated to safeguarding the lives and property of innocent residents in the region.

Up to the time of reporting, the Bauchi State Police Command has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident, as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) did not reply to messages sent to his known mobile phone number.
