As part of efforts to address damages done by flooding in Jigawa State, over one billion naira has been donated by concerned individuals and entities.
The state government launched Jigawa State Flood Appeal fund yesterday at Ahmadu Bello Hall of the Jigawa State Secretariat, Dutse
According to The Guardian, the highest donations of N200 million came from two prominent Kano businessmen, Abdulsamad Isyaka Rabiu, and Aminu Dantata.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Badaru Abubakar pledged Over N1 billion, with a personal pledge of N25 million from Governor Badaru Abubakar, was realised at the launch of the Jigawa State Flood Appeal fund in Dutse yesterday to contribute N25 million naira as Jigawa State government donated N250 million.The fund’s chief launcher, Isa Gerawa donated N10m, while CGC Construction Firm gave N50 million.
Alren Construction Firm donated N10 million, 11 federal Legislative members from Jigawa State and Zenith Bank donated ( N11 million and N10m respectively.
On its part, the Islamic Development Initiative pledged to offer foodstuffs and medication in most of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps of the flood victims, among other things.
In his words, Governor Abubakar said the government was ready to partner with anyone or corporate bodies willing to support the state in reducing the damages made by the flood, assuring that the government was committed to finding a solution to any problem bedevilling the state, including flooding.
Also, the Chairman of the occasion, who is also the Waziri of Dutse, Bashir Dalhatu, a lawyer, described the current Jigawa flooding as one of the worst and most devastating ever, with 108 lives lost, destroying 22 state roads, and breaking down seven bridges, hence our resolve to float this appeal fund to rehabilitate and provide shelter to over 75,000 household communities displaced and scattered in 25 different IDP camps.
