ISWAP has claimed responsibility for a car bomb explosion that killed at least three people on Dec. 29 outside a monarch’s Palace in Okene, Nigeria’s Northcentral state of Kogi.

According to HumAngle, the claim by the Islamic State affiliate on Monday comes days after the explosion at the palace of the traditional leader of the Ebira tribe, Ohinoyi of Ebira land.
The blast occurred shortly before Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari arrived in the state to commission some projects.
Kogi has suffered previous ISWAP attacks involving the use of armed cells and improvised explosive devices.
In December, the group claimed responsibility for an attack on police officers. The incident is likely connected to the Dec. 21 targeting of a police patrol team along Agbaja road in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.
Since April, ISWAP has conducted a series of attacks on civilians and security forces in locations far away from its stronghold.
These incidents have been recorded in States such as Kogi, Niger, Edo, and Ondo in the central and southern parts of the country.
Others have also taken place in Nigeria’s capital and Taraba in the Northeast.
