The daughter of the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government tragically lost her life while attempting to rescue her children from a fire that engulfed their home around midnight on Sunday,Daily Trust reports.
Her husband, Alhaji Muhammadu Yusuf Bello, the current Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Sport and Youth Development, was reportedly away at the time of the incident.
The fire, which completely destroyed the house located in the Nakasari area, also spread to neighboring properties before being extinguished through the combined efforts of firefighters, residents, and passersby. A firefighter, speaking anonymously, confirmed that other people were in the house, but only the SSG’s daughter, her three children, and a housemaid lost their lives. “She died trying to rescue her children,” he said.
The spokesperson for the Sokoto State Fire Service, Bello Garba, confirmed the deaths and noted that the fire destroyed properties worth millions of Naira. “We cannot yet provide details of the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage as investigations are ongoing. However, four deaths were recorded, including the SSG’s daughter, her three children, and her housemaid.”

Tears flowed as the deceased were laid to rest in Sifawa, the hometown of the SSG. The funeral prayer, held at the Sifawa Central Mosque, was led by Professor Attahiru Ahmad, the Chief Imam and newly appointed Commissioner for Science and Technology.
The Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Engineer Idris Gobir, led a state delegation to the burial. Also in attendance was the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, who recently lost his mother.
