Highlighting the need to tackle this entrenched resentment, Olaniyan emphasized that fostering a positive relationship between citizens and law enforcement is crucial for bolstering national security.
“We advocate for a shift towards embracing the Nigeria Police force. Since childhood, we’ve inadvertently sowed seeds of discord between our youth and law enforcement,” Olaniyan remarked.
He pointed out how even within households, threatening children with police intervention perpetuates this cycle of antipathy. Olaniyan stressed the importance of breaking this narrative to cultivate mutual respect and cooperation between the public and the police.
The State Chairman of the PCRC, Samson Kunle Popoola, echoed these sentiments, affirming the organization’s commitment to Ogun state’s security. Popoola emphasized the state’s reputation as the most peaceful and secure in Nigeria, underscoring the need for continued collaboration between residents and law enforcement to maintain this status quo.
