Following a meeting at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, governors and traditional rulers agreed to establish a joint committee to review collective input on the constitutional role for traditional rulers,Daily Trust reports.

Speaking to journalists afterward, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun explained that the agenda included discussing formal roles for traditional leaders within the constitution. He stated, “We agreed to form a joint committee of governors and traditional rulers to incorporate feedback shared during the meeting that represents the views of our communities, aiming to create a well-rounded proposal.”

Abiodun added that the committee would gather additional memoranda to synthesize into a comprehensive document for the National Assembly. “This document will be inclusive, aiming to empower our royal majesties and royal highnesses and to involve them actively in governance, peace, and security across our states, including the FCT.”
