Governor Kabiru Abba Yusuf of Kano State has instructed the state’s Accountant-General to immediately close the bank accounts of all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs),Daily Trust reports.
The directive was issued during an ongoing meeting with the Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service and the heads of MDAs at the Government House.
Governor Yusuf explained that the move is aimed at ensuring that all government revenues are properly accounted for and used to advance the state’s development and financial management for effective governance.
“I am instructing the Accountant-General to urgently issue a circular mandating all MDAs in the state to comply with the Kano State MDA Revenue Harmonization Law of 2016,” he stated.

He also directed the Accountant-General to instruct all money deposit banks and other financial institutions to close all bank accounts, whether for internally generated revenue (IGR) or expenditures, belonging to any state MDA.
“The banks are to transfer all account balances in these IGR and expenditure accounts to the new IGR account opened by the Office of the Accountant-General. They must also submit certificates of compliance with these directives to assist the Accountant-General and the Chairman of the Kano Internal Revenue Service in taking further necessary actions,” Governor Yusuf clarified.
He reassured the citizens, particularly taxpayers, that the funds would be used effectively to enhance their lives and the state’s economy.
“The state will vigorously tackle issues related to water and sanitation, health, education, agricultural development, and human capital development, among others. We remain committed to advancing the development of the state,” he added.
