Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has extended his congratulations to Buhari Sunusi Idris, the winner of the male category at the 39th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition,Daily Trust reports.
In a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, it was revealed that Buhari, representing Kano State, secured an impressive victory with a score of 98.2 percent, surpassing participants from 34 states.
The 2024 edition of the competition took place on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State. Governor Yusuf expressed his joy over the achievement and announced plans for a grand reception in Buhari’s honor. He noted that Buhari had already been awarded a hajj slot following his state-level victory and subsequent selection as the national representative.
Governor Yusuf proudly reaffirmed Kano’s status as the “home of the Qur’an,” highlighting the state’s leadership in Islamic scholarship and excellence in Qur’anic recitation.

While celebrating the victory, he encouraged Buhari to continue promoting the teachings of the Qur’an and called on the Muslim community to intensify prayers for peace, unity, and harmony in Nigeria.
The governor emphasized the importance of the Holy Qur’an in the lives of Muslims, describing it as not just a book but a divine guide offering comfort and light during challenging times.
“This victory highlights Kano’s steadfast dedication to preserving and promoting Qur’anic education and its enduring legacy in Islamic scholarship,” the statement concluded.
