President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Monday to commiserate with the people over the recent flood that devastated the city,Daily Trust reports.

Returning to Nigeria late Sunday after visits to the UAE, China, and the UK, the president touched down at the Air Force Base in Maiduguri at 3:20 p.m.

Governor Babagana Zulum welcomed the president upon his arrival. Tinubu is expected to pay a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar-Garbai El-Kaneni, before proceeding to one of the camps to address those displaced by the disaster.

The flood, which occurred on Monday, submerged nearly half of Maiduguri, resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of property.

To date, the Borno State Government has opened 36 camps to shelter thousands of displaced residents.

Prior to the president’s visit, Vice President Kashim Shettima had been sent to assess the situation and announced a N30 billion federal relief package.
