A fire erupted on Wednesday, engulfing the Gombe mobile police barracks situated at 34 PMF Squadron along Kwami town, Gombe State,Punch reports.
Confirming the incident during an interview on Thursday, Ayuba Jonah-Sule, the Commanding Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, revealed that the entire compound, including the armoury and other structures, were affected.
Jonah-Sule estimated the total loss to be around N100,000,000, but noted that his team managed to salvage approximately N25,000,000 worth of property.

“It was a fire that ravaged a 25-bedroom compound spanning an area of approximately 200 by 100 meters. The blaze, extinguished with the assistance of one medium Jet of water from FFS 193 and the state fire service, along with the Nigeria Police Force, is now under control,” he stated.
Furthermore, Jonah-Sule disclosed that earlier that same day, his team had responded to another fire incident at the Federal Low-Cost area in Kwanan Dan Aranga, Gombe State, which affected a 5-bedroom flat covering an area of about 200 by 200 feet. This fire was also successfully extinguished using similar methods.
This recent fire outbreak occurred shortly after Governor Muhammadu Yahaya had sanctioned the disbursement of N5 million to aid victims of a fire outbreak at the Blacksmith (Makera) shops in Gombe Main Market on December 25, 2023, which resulted in extensive damage to equipment and goods valued at millions of naira.
