The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force arrested 1,077 suspects in 2024 after handling 1,426 reported cases, according to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh. She revealed this during an interview with LEADERSHIP in Abuja on Tuesday.

Providing a detailed breakdown, SP Adeh disclosed the following:

  • Kidnapping: 104 cases reported, leading to the arrest of 216 suspects.
  • Armed Robbery: 268 cases reported, with 132 suspects apprehended.
  • One-Chance Robbery: 263 cases reported, resulting in the arrest of 71 suspects.
  • Cybercrime: 32 cases reported, leading to 15 arrests.
  • Homicide: 68 cases reported, with 78 suspects detained.
  • Burglary: 73 cases reported, and 20 suspects arrested.
  • Fraud: 385 cases reported, resulting in the arrest of 422 suspects.
  • Cultism: 38 cases reported, with 59 suspects arrested.
  • Car Theft: 127 cases reported, leading to 64 arrests.

Additionally, the Command received 68 complaints of police misconduct at its Complaint Response Unit (CRU).

The Command also rescued 68 kidnap victims and 19 victims of one-chance robbery during the review period.

In terms of recoveries, the FCT police secured:

  • 376 firearms, including 13 AK-47 magazines and 187 rounds of live ammunition.
  • Cash recoveries totaling ₦409,992,000, broken down as:
    • ₦36,850,000 from kidnapping suspects.
    • ₦68,552,000 from armed robbery cases.
    • ₦19,590,000 from burglary incidents.
    • ₦285,000,000 from fraud cases.
  • 73 cars, including 24 recovered from one-chance robbery and two from cultism cases.

However, the report noted the loss of 140 police officers in the line of duty between 2023 and 2024.
