The leadership crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn on Saturday, as former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, predicted the party’s downfall,Daily Trust reports.
Melaye accused the acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum, along with the national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and the national organizing secretary, Umar Bature, of causing irreparable damage to the party.
In a post on X, the former senator further alleged that the PDP’s leadership had commercialized and privatized the party.
“End of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature, and Anyanwu have irredeemably destroyed the party. We will talk about the commercialisation and privatisation of PDP. PDP is now once upon a time,” Melaye tweeted.

There are indications that the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) might sanction Damagum and Anyanwu over a controversial letter they allegedly sent to the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt regarding the party’s internal crisis. This letter has been viewed by some as an act of anti-party activity, prompting calls from party leaders, including members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), for disciplinary action against the two.
However, on Thursday, Damagum dismissed any attempts to pressure him into resigning, stating that such efforts only serve to increase his popularity. He added that he would address the situation when the time is right.
During the inauguration of the National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees, the acting chairman criticized those spreading misinformation about the NWC’s operations.
“Let me send a message to everyone talking about Damagum this, Damagum that—I cannot be intimidated. The more you mention me, the more popular I become,” Damagum said.
