Operatives from the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended three individuals on charges of naira mutilation and abuse,leadership reports.

The suspects, Stanley Ogbolu (35), Odiaka Sorwu (42), and Kelvin Anyakwu (42), were arrested in Asaba, Delta State, during a burial ceremony where they were allegedly spraying naira notes on a celebrant.

The EFCC stated that the arrest was based on credible intelligence regarding the suspects’ involvement in naira abuse. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

In a separate incident, Delta Police have detained suspected armed robbers who were terrorizing the Sapele community, recovering a pistol and other illegal items.

Acting on credible intelligence, a special squad of policemen deployed to Ughelli by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, arrested three suspected armed robbers and confiscated their weapons. These suspects had been using the weapons to terrorize innocent residents in Sapele.

Led by ASP Julius Robinson, the team apprehended Blessing Atima (23) of Jesse Community in Ethiope West LGA, Delta State, the gang leader; Destiny Okpako (19) of Oviri-Okpe Community in Okpe LGA, Delta State; and Wisdom Akpohirowho (20) of Jesse Community in Ethiope West LGA, Delta State, all residing in Sapele town.

Interrogation revealed their involvement in six armed robbery operations in Sapele.

SP Edafe Bright, the Command’s spokesperson, disclosed that exhibits recovered from the suspects included a Beretta pistol, a locally cut-to-size gun, three cutlasses, phones, and ATM cards belonging to victims. Some victims have identified the suspects and their recovered valuables.

“The suspects are in custody, and the investigation is ongoing,” he said.
