Prof. Rhoda Gumus, the INEC National Commissioner overseeing Edo State, has vowed not to accept bribes during the upcoming governorship election,Daily Trust reports.

In an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Gumus confidently asserted that her reputation would deter anyone from attempting to bribe her.

She also stated that voter accreditation would begin at 8 a.m., with voting expected to conclude by 2 p.m. However, she emphasized that all accredited voters would be allowed to cast their ballots, even after the official closing time. Gumus promised that the Edo governorship election would be the most well-conducted by INEC.

“I am responsible for Edo, and my goal is to ensure the right thing is done, even though I cannot physically be everywhere,” Gumus said. “We will carry out this election in a free, fair, and credible manner. I would never accept a bribe, no matter the amount. I don’t need billions to do what is right.

“No one will even attempt it. In any position you hold in this country, people know your character, and when they know your stance, they won’t even approach you. If I see any wrongdoing, I won’t tolerate it.”

Gumus also mentioned her close involvement in the election process, saying, “You wouldn’t believe that since this process began, I’ve been constantly monitoring the situation with the Electoral Officers in Charge (EOCs). Every few minutes, I check in to ensure things are running smoothly, and I immediately correct any issues. That has been my routine.”
