Zamfara Governor Commends DSS for Intercepting Arms Shipment to Suspected Terrorists
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has lauded the Department of State Services (DSS) for intercepting a cache of weapons intended for suspected terrorists in the state,Thecable reports.
During an inspection of the seized arms at the Government House in Gusau on Tuesday, Lawal praised the DSS for their efforts in curbing the proliferation of illegal weapons.
The intercepted arsenal included a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), two machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, two pistols, nineteen magazines, and over a thousand rounds of ammunition.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the suspected arms trafficker was tracked by DSS operatives from the Niger Republic and arrested along the Zurmi/Kauran Namoda highway in Zamfara.

“I must commend the military, the DSS, the police, and especially the Department of State Services for successfully carrying out such a critical operation,” Idris quoted Lawal as saying.
He assured that the state government would continue to support security forces to encourage their efforts in combating crime.
The governor also highlighted that the arrest was part of a larger crackdown on banditry in Zamfara, with multiple local criminals apprehended in recent weeks.
“It is important to note that many of these criminals are indigenes of Zamfara, not foreigners. This individual is just one among many,” Lawal stated.
“We have made several arrests over the past few weeks, though this is the first we are making public. Such operations are happening daily.”
Lawal reaffirmed that banditry in Zamfara is on the decline and urged residents to support security forces in their ongoing fight against crime.
