In certain Nigerian Army barracks, bodies in mortuaries are decaying due to power outages. Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, revealed this during a visit to Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, seeking assistance,Daily Trust reports.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) had issued a notice to 83 MDAs to settle a ₦47.1 billion debt or face disconnection, including Aso Rock, which President Bola Tinubu resolved.

Lagbaja expressed concern over prolonged darkness in barracks since January, citing difficulties in clearing debts affecting metered power supply.

He urged for debt resolution similar to 2005. Lagbaja assured support in combating power infrastructure vandalism. Adelabu pledged to engage DisCos for a solution, emphasizing the power sector’s broader challenges like infrastructure vandalism, billing inefficiencies, and gas shortages.

He advocated for a sustainable repayment plan and proposed collaboration with development partners for solar power in barracks. The meeting aimed to address the impacts of power outages on army facilities and chart a path forward.
