The Senate has announced its commitment to addressing Nigerians’ demands for State Police through the upcoming amendment of the 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly,leadership reports.

Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, emphasized that the Senate is cognizant of the public’s call for state police and assured that their aspirations will be addressed in the six proposed changes to the current constitution.

Adaramodu further stated that the Senate, in its upcoming constitution amendment task, will prioritize meeting the demands of Nigerians regarding state police. He affirmed the Senate’s readiness to adjust existing laws to accommodate this demand, whether it comes from the federal government, state governors, or any other entity.

The Senate is poised to inaugurate a constitution amendment committee, which will engage with various stakeholders across Nigeria, including sectors, traditional rulers, and other relevant parties, to ensure comprehensive input in the amendment process.
