The Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) Bauchi State chapter directed its members to ensure that all old naira notes in their possession are deposited in commercial banks before the deadline Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) earmarked for the deposition of the notes in banks nationwide.
Bauchi State CAN Chairman Reverend Abraham Dimeus Damina said this during an interactive session with CBN officials on redesigned Naira notes in Bauchi.
He said the leadership of CAN in all the 20 local governments of the state will swing into action with a view to educating the Christian community especially rural dwellers on the new policy.
Speaking, the Director of Medical Services at the CBN Dr Jibrin Abdulkadir said the reason for the engagement of CAN in the drive to ensure that old naira notes are taken to banks is to intimate religious leaders on the need to advise their followers to take their old naira notes to banks in order not to fall victims of losing their money.
He also urged the leadership of CAN in the state to work hand in hand with the CBN in order to ensure that all their members especially those living in the rural areas open a bank account so as to keep their money safe.
The Director called on members of the public to use alternative means created by CBN especially Point of sales agents working with CBN officials who are working in all the nooks and crannies of the country with a view to opening bank accounts to all Nigerians.
