The Bauchi State Government has announced plans to establish an agency dedicated to the development of border communities within the state,wikkitimes reports.

The Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Boundary Commission, Muhammad Auwal Jatau, revealed this initiative during a sensitization and enlightenment campaign in several local government areas (LGAs) along Bauchi’s northern borders. The campaign aims to enhance the living conditions of rural communities in LGAs that share boundaries with neighboring states by providing essential social amenities.

Jatau explained that the campaign’s primary goal is to address boundary disputes through proper tracing and demarcation of borders, thereby finding lasting solutions to these challenges. Speaking through his Special Assistant on Boundary Matters, Alhaji Ahmad Garba, the Deputy Governor emphasized that the proposed agency would focus on implementing developmental projects in border communities, such as schools, hospitals, and electrification initiatives.

Under Governor Bala Muhammad’s leadership, the Bauchi State Government has adopted an open-door policy for resolving boundary disputes amicably. Jatau also announced that a Joint Committee from the National Boundary Commission (NBC) would visit the state on January 12, 2025, to conduct field surveys and additional boundary demarcation exercises.

A consultant for the Bauchi State Boundary Commission, Mr. Moses Garba Ubans, underscored the importance of understanding the historical context of border communities during the demarcation process.

In separate remarks, the deputy chairpersons of the affected LGAs commended the Commission’s efforts and pledged to collaborate in resolving boundary disputes within their jurisdictions.

As part of the campaign, the sensitization team also visited Warji and Ganjuwa LGAs to further the initiative’s objectives.
