The District Head of Dogon-Jeji, a community in Jama’are local government area of Bauchi state, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammed Jarma has raised concerns over the incessant destruction that gully erosion consistently inflicts on the residents of the community over the years.
Alhaji Jarma said this on Monday when Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed led his campaign team on a visit to the District Head in his palace.
He said since its creation, Dogon-Jeji has been battling erosion with devastating consequences yearly, especially during the rainy season.
The District Head explained that the community is surrounded by sandy plains which surface run-off water easily washed away thus exposing the vast buildings of the community to erosion.
Alhaji Jarmas also requested the governor to construct township roads in the community to help control water flow.
“We plead with you, your Excellency to construct three or four-kilometre township roads for us in Dogon-Jeji community.
“Our secondary school lacks a fence, hence allowing intruders to trespass easily to vandalise the property of the school,” he said.
Responding, governor Bala Mohammed said the purpose of the visit is to seek the royal blessing and support of the District Head and his subjects to ensure reelection victory at the polls in March later this year.
The governor urged the District Head to be politically neutral and provide listening ears to all candidates as a father.
“We are here as PDP candidates including the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar seeking your support, prayers and commitment for us to succeed at the polls,” he said.
