The community of Sabon Kaura, behind Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, has appealed to the state governor, Bala Abdukadir Muhammad, to tackle the issue of poor electricity supply in the area.
One of the community members, Mrs. Shekara Isa said that the situation was affecting their businesses and the livelihood of their families for over one year now.
Mrs. Shekara noted that s Kaura community “is a student environment which deserves all social amenities but the reverse is the case,” hence the need for the government to provide them with social amenities.
Mrs. Shekara however commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for constructing the Sabon Kaura road linking Dass Road and Jos Road, which she said had assisted the community a lot.

Buttressing Mrs. Shekari’s appeal, the community head of Sabon Kaura, Mr Titus emphasis that “the only electricity transformer in the area does not accommodate us due to the population size of the area, as a result, the electricity supply to the community is being rationed, a development that is adversely affecting the livelihood of the populace.” .
Mr Titus appealed to the people of Sabon Kaura community to continue to support the Bala Abdulkadir’s government’s policies and programmes at all times, an idea that would guarantee a positive attitude of the government to addressing the community’s problems.
Also, one of the many students resident in the community, Mr. Jessy Deve explained how the electricity power supply in the area affected their lives as students, stressing the security threats they face especially at night when there is no light.
He then appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the community by providing a lasting solution to the lingering problem of power supply to the Sabon Kaura community, which he described as a peaceful and hospitable host community to thousands of students.
In the same vein, Miss Likita Vivian Wakili a medical student with the ATBU teaching hospital equally highlighted the security challenges they face in which many students have had their phones and other valuables snatched by criminals around the area on the students’ way to charge them inside the campus, mainly due to near lack of electricity in the community.
Expressing their own concern about the irregular power supply in the area, the business community in Sabon Kaura, represented by Engineer Mahmoud Yahaya who repair electronics, laments how the situation badly affected their craftsmanship.
Mr. Mahmood said, “for over a year now, we’ve not had a stable power supply, and that is slowly killing our businesses and affecting our means of livelihood,” pleading with relevant authorities to look into the matter.
In response to the yearnings of the people, the supervisory councilor representing Birshi Miri Ward of Bauchi Local Government, which covers the Sabon Kaura community, Honourable Yawaina Danladi, appealed to the community to exercise patience as she was doing everything possible to resolve the power issue.
Honorable Yawaina assured that, “I will forward your request through the proper channels, and I will follow it up to ensure that a lasting solution is found,” noting that she was going to send the report to her colleague councilor in charge of power issues, Honourable Musa Zango.
The community is by this promise of their representative patiently waiting for when soccour will come to them in this time of economic hardship and rising insecurity.
