Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ifeanyi Okowa, his running mate, met with Goodluck Jonathan, former president of Nigeria,TheCable report.
Atiku announced their meeting on his Twitter page on Friday.
“Last night, I led a delegation alongside my vice presidential candidate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, on a courtesy visit to former president Goodluck Jonathan, at his residence in Abuja,” he wrote.
On October 13, Jonathan declared support for the candidacy of Ifeanyi Okowa as the vice-presidential candidate of the PDP.
At a meeting with some members of the party, the former president addressed Okowa as Nigeria’s incoming vice-president.
Since losing his re-election bid in 2015, the former president is rarely seen at PDP events or activities.
Earlier in the year, there were speculations that he resigned from being a member of the PDP and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the build-up to the APC presidential primary, it was rumoured that among the APC stakeholders, Jonathan was the preferred candidate to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
Meanwhile, amid calls for him to contest the presidency, he simply told his supporters to “watch out”.
However, he did not participate in the presidential primary of any party. He also distanced himself from a northern coalition that bought him the APC presidential nomination and expression form.
