One week after returning from a trip to France, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is preparing for a visit to the People’s Republic of China,Daily Trust reports.
Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced that the China visit is scheduled for the first week of September.
According to Ngelale, this trip is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance the wellbeing of Nigerians. During his time in China, President Tinubu is expected to meet with President Xi Jinping, where several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed.
The President will also meet with ten Chief Executive Officers from key Chinese companies in sectors such as oil and gas, aluminum production, agriculture, and satellite technology.

Ngelale stated, “The President will conduct site visits to two major Chinese corporations—Huawei Technologies and the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC). These visits are aligned with one of his top priorities: completing the Ibadan to Abuja segment of the Lagos to Kano high-speed rail line.”
Additionally, President Tinubu will meet with the CEOs of ten major Chinese corporations, collectively managing assets worth over $3 trillion. These discussions will span multiple sectors, including information and communications technology, refining, oil and gas, aluminum production, seaport and harbor construction, dredging services, and satellite technology development.
While in China, President Tinubu will engage with President Xi Jinping to sign MoUs aimed at deepening cooperation in areas such as the green economy, agriculture, satellite technology, media enterprise development, blue economy, and national planning.
“This visit is part of a broader engagement where the two leaders will discuss mutual interests, not only in economic matters but also in national, regional, and international security,” Ngelale added.
President Tinubu will also participate in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, where he will deliver remarks on behalf of the ECOWAS region in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. He will also speak at the high-level peace and security plenary, addressing issues related to peace and security in the region and across Africa.
“This engagement is expected to yield significant, immediate, and future benefits for the Nigerian economy and its people. The President is focused on deliverables, ensuring that this trip produces tangible results, justifying any expenses incurred.”
This visit comes amid tensions between Nigeria and a Chinese firm that seized a presidential aircraft over an alleged breach of contract.
