The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the death of Inspector Emmanuel Tanko, who was attached to 38 PM Akwanga,leadership reports.
Inspector Tanko was fatally shot while on a special duty in the State, dying instantly from the bullet wound.
According to LEADERSHIP, a Joint Task Force, which included personnel from the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Operation Rainbow, encountered resistance from a mob during a clearance operation in the Jos Terminus Market area.

DSP Alfred Alabo, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, stated that after numerous attempts to control the situation failed, an officer from a sister agency fired a warning shot. Tragically, this shot struck Inspector Tanko, resulting in his immediate death.
The statement also mentioned that to restore order, the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, visited the scene to assess the situation.
“The officer involved was immediately arrested and is currently under investigation at the State CID Jos, while the victim’s body has been taken to Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Jos for an autopsy,” the statement said.
The CP urged the public to cooperate with security agencies in their lawful duties, emphasizing that the enforcement of laws is for the benefit of all citizens. He also reassured the public that the Plateau State Police Command remains committed to continuously training and retraining its officers to maintain professionalism.
