Some residents of Ilaro in Ogun State have complained about how men of the Nigeria Customs Service cause havoc when they pursue suspected rice smugglers within the community, Punch reports.
In this interview with our team, a farmer, Abidemi Dairo, recounted how he was shot in front of his house in Sarumi, Ilaro, in Ogun State’s Yewa South Local Government Area, when customs officers were pursuing a rice smuggler.

Dairo said that he and other landlords in the area told the customs officers to slow down when pursuing rice smugglers because of children and the customs officers retorted that they( the landlords) were not equipped teach them their jobs and began shooting at them.
Another resident, Gbenga Dairo, lamented about the impact of the shooting on fences and buildings in the area.
