The Bauchi State Government has announced a plan to expand the capacity of the Bauchi Central Market from 700 stalls to 2,000 stalls in preparation for the upcoming reconstruction project set to begin later this month. This expansion will add 1,300 additional stalls to accommodate more traders,leadership reports.

Alhaji Mohammed Sizwe, the General Manager of the Bauchi State Marketing and Terminal Management Company, revealed that the reconstruction of the Central Market will be carried out in phases to minimize disruption to commercial activities.

Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, Alhaji Kabir stated that the government has secured a site at Kurmi Quarters adjacent to the Central Market where traders from the first phase of the market will be relocated to facilitate the reconstruction process.

“The government has acquired several houses at Kurmi Quarters, with dissolution proceedings set to conclude by mid-May this year, to provide accommodation for Central Market traders during the reconstruction,” explained the General Manager.

He assured that compensation for the affected houses has been disbursed, allowing owners to salvage and use any salvaged materials. The market’s reconstruction, planned in four phases, is expected to be completed within a reasonable timeframe under the current state administration.
