Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is urging property owners in the state to utilize the amnesty period provided by the government to finalize their building approval documents. Failure to comply may result in the authorities identifying and potentially demolishing buildings lacking proper approval once the amnesty period ends, leadership reports.

The governor, speaking yesterday during a presentation at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, introduced new tools, including ICT devices, to the Physical Planning and Automation Department and Lagos State Planning Information Centre (LASPIC) within the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. This initiative marks a significant advancement in innovation and operational efficiency.

Representing Governor Sanwo-Olu, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser on e-GIS and Urban Development, emphasized that these tools will streamline the building plan process and improve the business environment in Lagos.

He stated, “Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is committed to providing quality services to the people of Lagos State. Through LASPIC’s online platform, individuals can now obtain certified true copies of missing approvals and apply for building permits from the convenience of their homes. It’s worth noting that a large number of buildings in Lagos lack proper approvals. LASPIC and the Physical Planning and Automation Department have diligently documented these cases.”

Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the commissioner for physical planning and urban development, emphasized that the automation system aims to simplify processes and urged personnel to uphold integrity for its success.

He added, “We encourage individuals to engage with the ministry electronically from their homes. Physical presence is no longer a requirement for obtaining approvals. The goal is to make the process accessible and efficient for everyone.”
