During a Stakeholders’ Validation Meeting of the Draft National Minimum Standards and Draft Strategic Plans for senior secondary education in Abuja over the weekend, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, appealed to the National Assembly for assistance in resolving the issue of allocating two percent tax to the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) to bolster infrastructure in senior secondary schools,Daily Trust reports,
Prof. Mamman emphasized the pivotal role of NSSEC in establishing and upholding minimum standards for secondary schools across Nigeria, particularly in teaching, quality assurance, planning, research, statistics, and infrastructure.
Acknowledging the absence of a coordinating agency for senior secondary education previously, the minister expressed gratitude to the National Assembly for their endeavors in establishing NSSEC.

While urging state commissioners of education to prioritize the implementation of national standards and strategic plans, Prof. Mamman underscored the significance of adhering to the validation roadmap to formulate effective policies conducive to quality education.
He highlighted that the implementation of these documents would not only tackle the learning crisis in pre-tertiary education but also furnish relevant education conducive to livelihoods and active societal participation for the youth.
Dr. Iyela Ajayi, the Executive Secretary of NSSEC, informed attendees that the commission had successfully formulated a National Policy on Senior Secondary Education along with its implementation guidelines.
