The Al-Habibiyyah Charity and Endowment Foundation, affiliated with the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, has allocated over N10 million towards distributing startup tools and scholarships to 101 vulnerable individuals, including Christians, with the aim of fostering economic self-reliance,Daily Trust reports.
Imam Fuad Adeyemi, the National Chief Imam of the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, announced this initiative on Sunday, marking the third National Zakat Day and the 13th public zakat disbursement. He emphasized that this charitable act is in accordance with the directive of Allah to extend assistance to those in need.
The Imam highlighted that this effort aligns with their mission to combat poverty among marginalized populations, thus the event’s theme: “WAQF: Combating Poverty Among Citizenry”.

Adeyemi elaborated, stating, “Zakat (charity) is the third pillar of Islam, and when executed effectively, it has the potential to uplift the entire nation, not solely the Muslim community. It can significantly improve the status of the recipient.”
He acknowledged the shortfall in zakat payments and emphasized their inability to enforce compliance, hence the symbolic presentation aimed at encouraging charitable giving. He reiterated that as a religious organization, their primary objective is to support the needy and alleviate the suffering of the impoverished, particularly during these challenging times in the nation.
Imam Abdulrahman Alalubosa, the guest lecturer and Sharia Compliance Officer at Jaiz Bank, expounded on the importance of charity in Islamic teachings, urging affluent Nigerians to prioritize almsgiving.
Hajiya Habibah Ahmed, the Director of Endowment and Empowerment at the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, emphasized the significance of the event, noting its benefits for the giver, recipient, and society at large, emphasizing its role as an investment for both the present and the hereafter.
Furthermore, Malam Mustapha Alkali, representing the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), underscored the importance of providing zakat to vulnerable individuals.
