The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended and placed under protective custody a man named Kolawole Akinsanya, on suspicion of colluding with hoodlums to fatally assault his neighbor, Lukmon Ajibola, in Ilepa, located within the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports from PUNCH Metro, the incident occurred on Monday, February 5, around 8 pm.
An anonymous resident of the community revealed that a goat belonging to the deceased wandered into Akinsanya’s compound and consumed his dried yam, leading to Akinsanya’s alleged anger and subsequent killing of the animal. Ajibola, upon learning of this, confronted Akinsanya, resulting in an altercation. Allegedly, Akinsanya then summoned a group of thugs who assaulted Ajibola.

Ajibola fell unconscious during the attack and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The resident, preferring anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter, recounted, “Ajibola reared goats to support his motorcycle business. One of his goats entered Akinsanya’s compound around 4 pm and consumed the dried yams he had spread. When Ajibola noticed this, he confronted Akinsanya about the incident, leading to an argument. Akinsanya then called around three hoodlums who attacked Ajibola.”
The assailants reportedly poured alcohol into Ajibola’s ears during the assault. Despite being rushed to Zion Hospital in Ilepa for treatment and later transferred to State Hospital Otta, Ajibola passed away.
The deceased’s family mourned the tragic loss, while Akinsanya was apprehended by the police. However, three alleged accomplices, known as Chicago, Agbara, and one ID, managed to evade capture.
A relative of the deceased, also preferring anonymity, voiced concerns over the police’s handling of the case, alleging attempts to cover up the incident.
The relative asserted, “The main suspect is in police custody at the Ogun State Police Command in Eleweran, Abeokuta. His accomplices are currently at large.”
Meanwhile, Akinsanya’s colleagues are reportedly rallying funds to secure his release and allegedly influencing the police to suppress the case and prevent the arrest of the other suspects.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that efforts were underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
