The federal government has officially opened two hostels at Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, valued at N550 million. These male and female hostels, sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) as its 2020 special intervention, were inaugurated by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum, Downstream, and member of the Senate Committee on Education and TETFund,leadership reports.
During the inauguration, Senator Ubah reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to collaborating with the executive branch to enhance the global competitiveness of the nation’s educational institutions for economic and technological development. He stressed the need for a thorough investigation into the Christmas Eve killings in Plateau State, advocating for justice and lasting solutions to recurrent criminality in the region.
The executive secretary of TETfund, Sonny Echono, represented by Mr. Babatunde Olajide, the director of Monitoring and Evaluation Department, highlighted that projects executed between 2021 and 2023 would address security concerns and negative influences on the youth population. He commended the polytechnic’s management for prioritizing projects that enhance student well-being and urged proper use and maintenance of the facilities.

The rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo, expressed gratitude to TETfund for the new hostels, providing safe and decent accommodation for an increased number of students. She emphasized that the modern facilities in the hostels aim to create a conducive environment for academic excellence.
Additionally, TETfund commissioned a N1 billion 2,000-sitting capacity Central Library Complex at Bauchi State University, Gadau. Executive Secretary Arc. Sonny Echono assured sustained and improved interventions to help government-owned tertiary institutions undertake impactful projects for global competitiveness. Hon. Bappah Aliyu Misau, Member of the House Committee on TETFUND, highlighted various sponsorships for academic pursuits, including Ph.D. and Master’s degrees, emphasizing the fund’s commitment to education.
The Vice Chancellor of Bauchi State University, Prof. Fatima Tahir, expressed gratitude to TETfund for its transformative intervention, acknowledging the federal government’s commitment to education.
