The resumption date for undergraduates at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (ATBU) has been postponed to January 7, 2024, according to the decision made by the university’s Senate. The extension comes in the aftermath of a one-week closure initiated by the ATBU management following a series of protests by students,Daily Trust reports.
The protests originated from the tragic killing of a 500-level student who was fatally stabbed by suspected robbers, leading to a deterioration of law and order on campus.

The announcement of the extended closure was made through a statement signed by Alhaji Zailani Bappa, the Director of Information and Public Relations at ATBU. The decision was reached during an emergency meeting held at the Senate Chamber in Gubi Campus. Initially, the university management had declared a one-week closure from December 4 to December 10, 2023, to prevent potential disruptions in law and order on the Yelwa and Gubi campuses.
Bappa clarified that the closure was prompted by the unrest among some students following the unfortunate incident in Yelwan Ngas, a suburb of Bauchi town, where their fellow student was attacked by unknown assailants, leading to his untimely death.
