The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) alleges the discovery of a plan by Benue State government officials to orchestrate protests against President Bola Tinubu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, leadership reports.
In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Daniel Ihomun, he asserted that the protest aims to prevent the president from approving the recent Senate resolution, which halts the release of funds to local government caretaker committees nationwide. Ihomun claimed, “This plot has been deeply hatched, and their first experimental step was the call on the party chairman in the state, Comrade Austin Agada, to resign without advancing any genuine reason.”
Ihomun emphasized the party’s concern, stating, “The party views this act of sabotage as portending grave danger to the unity of the state and the party if people who claim APC membership and are working under an APC state government would undermine their President, the Senate President, and the SGF in an open protest in their quest to stifle the hands of government on a matter.”

He criticized the organizers for potentially embarrassing the President and his administration, asserting that while the right to express oneself is acknowledged, actions that may tarnish the government’s image must be stopped.
The APC called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Benue State Commissioner of Police to closely monitor the planned protest, cautioning that it might appear as a solidarity march but with sinister motives. The party also urged Governor Hyacinth Iornem Alia to monitor individuals misusing his name for activities that could lead to a state of emergency.
Furthermore, the party appealed to security agencies in the state to be vigilant and prevent any divisive actions that could disturb the peace, concluding with a caution to the public about what they described as a potentially scripted scenario.
