Chief Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has refuted claims made by certain disgruntled members of the party in the state. These members suggested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had transferred the party’s structure to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike,leadership reports.
Speaking on a live radio program in Port Harcourt, Okocha dismissed these insinuations, emphasizing that those making such claims were misunderstanding the situation. He pointed out that Wike, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had not shown any inclination to leave the leading opposition party.
Okocha clarified, “If you are talking about an alliance, I aligned with Nyesom Wike, and I am still aligning with him. The issue of handing over the party to Nyesom Wike; he is not a member of the APC, for crying out loud, and everybody knows that he is a staunch founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).”

He further highlighted Wike’s loyalty to the PDP, stating, “He has boasted times without number that he has benefited a lot from the PDP and that he was not in a hurry to leave the party.”
Regarding the leadership of the APC in Rivers State, Okocha commended the national leadership for bringing together experienced individuals who would contribute to the party’s growth. As the representative of Rivers State in the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), he expressed confidence in the assembled team’s ability to strengthen the party in the state.
