Umar Namadi, the Governor of Jigawa State, has submitted a budget proposal of N298.14 billion for the year 2024 to the State House of Assembly. This budget aligns with the governor’s 12-point agenda aimed at fostering equitable development across the state,leadership reports.
Governor Namadi outlined the allocation of N111.98 billion, representing 37 percent of the budget, to recurrent expenditure, and N175.44 billion, representing 59 percent, for capital expenditure. The education sector received the largest portion, with N95.5 billion, constituting 32 percent. The focus in this sector includes teacher recruitment, enhancing foundational skills, reducing the number of out-of-school children, and establishing a Tsangaya board to integrate the almajiri system into the formal learning system.
Health was allocated N36.2 billion (12 percent), agriculture received N14.14 billion, and works and transport, including road construction, were allotted N41.14 billion. Rural electrification, water supply and sanitation, and environment and regional planning were allocated N2 billion, N5.29 billion, and N9.5 billion, respectively.

Information technology secured its inaugural budget of N1.23 billion, while N4.4 billion was earmarked for youth and women empowerment. Additionally, a proposed budget of N109 billion was presented for the 27 local government areas of the state.
Governor Namadi urged the Assembly to expedite the legislative consideration of the budget, emphasizing the need for swift action to deliver the anticipated benefits of democracy to the people of Jigawa State. Speaker Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyating, in response, assured a commitment to passing the budget before the third week of December. He commended Governor Umar Namadi for presenting a realistic budget that encapsulates the mission and vision of elevating Jigawa State to greatness.
