This pledge was made during the Human Rights Day celebration, which was organized by the non-governmental organization Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative. The event took place at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi Ibadan. Governor Makinde, represented by his executive assistant on administration, Revd Idowu Ogedengbe, asserted that any government discussing good governance without prioritizing citizens’ rights is engaging in deception and lacks the best interests of its people at heart.

Additionally, Justice Iyabo Yerima, the chief judge of the state, represented by Justice Muftau Adegbola, acknowledged the commendable work carried out by charitable organizations. She disclosed that the appointment of eight additional judges in the state was in an advanced stage.
The founder and convener of Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative, Comrade Ezekiel Bello, explained that the event aimed to raise awareness among the less privileged about their rights and the government’s responsibility to protect and defend fundamental human rights.
Notable moments during the event included the presentation of awards to deserving members of society. Among the recipients, Governor Makinde received the “Best Governor of the Year” award, recognizing his administration’s efforts in enhancing the quality of life for government employees and the less privileged in the state.
