The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Lekan Sunday, a 40-year-old man, on allegations of raping a prophetess within a church located in the state. Although the crime was reportedly committed last Thursday, the police managed to arrest the suspect on Monday,Daily Trust reports.
Armed with weapons, the accused forcibly entered the Orioke Aanu Oluwa Gbohunmi church situated in the Ilogbo Adu neighborhood of Kemta, Abeokuta. He purportedly threatened the prophetess, brandishing a knife in a menacing manner, and held her captive, even going so far as to threaten her life if she did not cooperate.

Despite seeking help from those nearby, the prophetess’s pleas went unanswered. Subsequently, she appealed to the perpetrator, who ultimately coerced her into submission and allegedly committed the rape. Following the incident, the victim sought refuge in a nearby police station, where she reported the matter.
Upon receiving the complaint, the police initiated a manhunt for the suspect, who had fled the scene. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, revealing that the prophetess was able to identify the suspect as a local mason and laborer in the area.
The preliminary investigation into the case is currently in progress. Ogun is known to be one of the states in Nigeria with a high rate of criminal activity.
