The Michael Imoudu National Institute of Labour Studies (MINILS) has bestowed the prestigious Fellowship of the Nigeria Institute of Labour (NIL), a division under the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, upon Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC),leadership reports.
During the conferment ceremony in Abuja, Isa Aremu, the director-general of the Institute, praised Danbatta’s outstanding contributions and those of his team in advancing the NCC and the national workforce. Aremu commended the remarkable achievements in broadband penetration, increased Internet subscribers, and other notable successes achieved under Prof. Danbatta’s leadership as the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC. He emphasized the positive impact of the telecom sector, regulated by Danbatta’s leadership, on national productivity.
In addition to Prof. Danbatta, Usman Malah, the director of Human Capital and Administration at the commission, who has played a key role in enhancing the effectiveness of the NCC workforce, was also honored with a fellowship.

At the event, Prof. Danbatta, represented by Malah, underscored the importance of collectively supporting initiatives that improve the well-being of Nigerian workers by providing them with increased access to affordable telecom services. He highlighted that a digitally skilled and informed workforce is crucial for accelerating national productivity and development, in conjunction with other government initiatives. Prof. Danbatta assured that the NCC would continue to work towards providing affordable and widespread telecom services to enhance the daily activities of Nigerian workers.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition of both himself and Malah, Prof. Danbatta pledged ongoing support for empowering NCC staff through skill development, education, capacity-building activities, and the expansion of robust broadband infrastructure to promote job creation and enhance national productivity for Nigerians.
