The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) initiated a two-day warning strike on Tuesday, which has prompted the Gombe State House of Assembly to reschedule the screening of 17 commissioner nominees appointed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya,leadership reports.
The Assembly had initially planned to commence the screening on Tuesday, five weeks after receiving the list of nominees from the governor. However, Speaker Abubakar Mohammed Lugerewo announced in a statement on Tuesday that the assembly has postponed the screening sessions to Thursday and Friday, respectively, due to the ongoing strike.

According to the revised screening schedule, the nominees to be screened on Thursday include Mijinyawa Ardo Tilde (Funakaye), Asma’u Iganus (Shongom), Lt. Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd) (Balanga), Dr. Barnabas Malle (Kaltungo), and Adamu Inuwa Pantami (Gombe). Others are Barrister Zubairu Mohammed Umar (Funakaye), Dr. Abdullahi Bappah Garkuwa (Gombe), Dr. Aishatu Umar Maigari, and Abdulkadir Mohammed Waziri (Akko LGA).
The second batch of nominees, to be screened on Friday, includes Dr. Habu Dahiru (Yamaltu/Deba), Dr. Usman Maijama’a Kallamu (Kwami), Mohammed Shettima Gadam (Kwami), and Muhammad Gambo Magaji (Dukku). The remaining nominees are Alhaji Nasiru Mohammed Aliyu (Yamaltu/Deba), Mohammed Saidu Fawu (Billiri), Saidu Baba Alkali (Nafada), and Sanusi Ahmed Maidala (Akko).
