Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber identified as Joseph Vincent during a stop-and-search operation, The Punch reports.
It was gathered that the suspect was arrested at about 10am on Sunday, along Jeremi Iwhrekan road in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Thursday, said operatives of Dragon 18 and 29, while on stop-and-search duty along Jeremi/Iwhrekan Road in the Ughelli South Local Government Area, intercepted a tricycle with number plate GBB 022 UN, driven by one Isreal Sibito, conveying three female and one male passenger.
“While the search was being carried out, the male passenger who was later identified as Joseph Vincent, aged 24 years, jumped down from the tricycle and ran into a nearby bush in an attempt to escape, and he was given a hot chase by the operatives and was arrested,” the police spokesman stated.
The PPRO disclosed that when a search was conducted on the suspect, two locally-fabricated Berretta pistols were recovered from him.
